ID&A Thomas More is a creative breeding ground for interior and furniture design in Mechelen. Next to the interior design (IV) program -existing for more than fifty years now and since twelve years also in open higher education (OHO)- the postgraduate course in Furniture Design (VOMO) is sharing its 22nd edition with the professional field.
At Contemporary Design Market, ID&A shows furniture prototypes of some of the many talents from the most recent generation: First there is Marit Doorenbos (VOMO). Her DERME is a modular sofa inspired by the cell-shaped human skin that is constructed in the same way for everyone. The different modules represent different individuals, each with a unique pigment. DERME is an invitation to discuss racism, the structural problem in our society in which people consciously and unconsciously give less value to ‘other’ people purely because of their skin colour, nationality, origin, or culture,… while there is only one race: mankind. Charlotte Declercq
(OHO) is a design artist aiming for refined sensuality through thoughtful juxtapositions of color, texture and volume.
Three objects (in three different materials) from MATERIA Y MASA -her functional sculpture series- will be on display at Contemporary Design Market 2021:
UMBRA STOOL / SIDE TABLE (in wood) PILAR WAX SCULPTURE (in wax) MESA BAJA / LOW TABLE (in stone).
